News from Perdido Key Association Annual Meeting

The 2008 PKA Annual Membership meeting was held on March 1st at Perdido Bay UMC Community Center. The meeting was well attended and much was accomplished.

We were pleased to be able to make presentations to a local youth park and the Perdido Key Station 19 firefighters.

It came to the board’s attention last fall that the maintenance at Perdido Kids Park is not funded by the county Parks and Recreation Dept. Volunteers provide the labor and supplies needed to maintain all of the playground equipment and grounds. PKA has committed to make an annual contribution to Perdido Kids Park for supplies to keep this lovely park up. Chris Davis was on hand to report on the Park’s future plans and accept a donation of $500 from the PKA membership for purchase of maintenance supplies.

In addition to safeguarding our community against fire, the professional firefighters at Perdido Key Station 19 also provide water rescue / EMT services for our beach community. When we asked what we could do to make their jobs easier and safer they asked for water rescue equipment. The board of directors was very pleased to be able to present four sets of professionally rated top

quality Jet Ski helmets, safety flotation vests and emergency lights to our firefighters. It was great to have four of the firefighters on hand to accept the contribution and a rousing round of applause for their hard work.

Mr. Jim Fournier and his son Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Fournier attended to present the Gail Fournier Award to the Pensacola News Journal Editorial staff. Carl Wernike, Opinion Editor, PNJ accepted the award.

The board reported on the association’s activities in the past year, upcoming events and objectives they have set for 2008. Treasurer Dan Henderson presented the association’s financial report.

Newly elected board member, Alan Dennis was welcomed and presented to the membership. Kelly Robertson and Dan Henderson were re-elected to serve a second term. The floor was then opened for general discussion, questions and comments.

Thank you to all that attended.
