Update From Gene Valentino:
SR # 292 Sorrento/Gulf Beach Hwy

July 02,
2008

Dear Precinct Leaders & Friends:

Based on earlier information I had received, we had reported to you that
the repaving of State Road 292 (Sorrento Road) … from the Theo Baars
Bridge eastbound to Navy Blvd was to begin in June/July 2008. The
Florida Department of Transportation has responded to us today. They now
want to clarify their timeline for the repaving of the road. Because we
have gotten them to extend the repaving eastbound from Walmart to Navy
Blvd, their new timeline will be as follows:

The letting date (contract date) will be August 08.

The Notice To Proceed (NTP) is anticipated around October 08. And,

Construction should commence at the end of 2008 or the first of 2009.

Project length - 10.258 miles

Cost - $7,688,000
While this is a delay, we got them to go with a longer repaving run.
This project cost comes straight out of the Florida Department of
Transportation Highway Trust Fund, NOT from local taxes. I guess we can
afford to wait four extra months!
 This is good news!
To me, this is merely a “patch on the tire” while we continue to secure
a true road widening from the Alabama border (at Florabama) back to
Walmart (at Blue Angel Pkwy).
